Slow download speeds

On 350/35 package. Tested on wired. Very slow download speed getting like 37mbps down:

I think it's due to network congestion. I've tried restarting the hub but it's still just as slow. I might do a test later to see if it gets faster at different times.

I looked in my hub logs, can't see anything unusual. Got 24 downstream channels, powers all normal (-1.5 to -0.7), all >=38 SNR & 256qam. 4 upstream all 44 power/64qam. So everything seems ok there.

The status checker says everything's fine but clearly it's not. Can this please be looked into? Thank you.

Re: Slow download speeds

It might be congestion (over-utilisation in VM speak).  Head over to Thinkbroadband, and setup a BQM.  Let it run for 24 hours, then post a link to shared graph, and then we can see what you're up against, as over-utilisation usually has a very clear fingerprint, but there can be other causes of slow speeds.

Re: Slow download speeds

Also, if you're consistently seeing 37 Mbps wired, what does a speedtest from a phone show?  fast.com is easy and quick to use from mobile devices.

Re: Slow download speeds

Thanks. I did have a BQM before but my IP's changed so I've just made another one.

It varies between around 30-50 mbps on all devices (wired/wireless). Just done a speedtest on my phone and got 31.5 down/36.6 up.

Re: Slow download speeds

Speeds are better today but still much slower than what they should be:

Previously I'd get a very consistent 380mbps down. Here's my BQM:

Not sure exactly what I'm looking for but it looks very messy yesterday until 11pm. But even today it's been way slower than it should be (although not as bad as yesterday).

Thanks again for your help.

Re: Slow download speeds

Hi there @hammy434

Thanks for popping back to this thread last week - sorry that you've been having some speed issues recently.

I have located your account from here and have gone through a few basic checks. We currently have no known area issues for any broadband issues and no errors showing on your account. It's been around 10 days since your last reboot.

The signal levels are where we would expect them to be and nothing showing of any concern in the background either. I can see that you're currently in modem mode; are you having the same speed issues in router mode with a wired connection?

Cheers

Re: Slow download speeds

Hi Katie, my speeds have improved slightly, but at peak times (evening) it's still very slow, around 100mbps download although it varies. At non peak times the speed is fine. Due to this it's unlikely to be related to modem mode.

These are my TBB graphs for Saturday and Sunday:

Sunday seems to be particularly bad, and just looking at most days, mostly between 6-11pm (and especially between 8-9pm) it's very messy, which is basically peak time.

Hope this can be resolved, I've pretty much always had great speeds in the past so it's a bit puzzling. I really want to upgrade to Gig1 when it comes here too but if I can't even get my 350 then not much point 😕 thanks for your help.

Re: Slow download speeds

Could this be looked into? Complete joke at this point:

I've also just noticed if I put my address into Virgin Media's postcode checker, the max package is the M350 one, rather than M600. Is this due to the congestion in the area?

BQM graph:
