Paying for 500mbps but getting 200mbps

Hi,

I have been having good broadband quality from you recently so I haven't had any need to resolve any problems. Which is good.

However, for some reason I ran a speed test the other day and found I was only getting speeds of 200Mbps. I have been upgraded to 500Mbps for about a year apparently with Volt M500.

I have checked every day since and switched off the modem and restarted it and I still getting 200Mbps.

Is there a reason I have not been getting what I'm paying for?

I have 3x hard wired PC's (Gigabit LAN working) and 2x 802.11n laptops and they all show the same speed. Most of these have hardly anything installed.
So it cannot be PC perforance.
If I do alter the HUB3 back to router and test it then through is it likely to be different.? Because at the moment it does appear throttled.

Putting the HUB back into router mode and testing using the site I linked to earlier will confirm if it's an issue with your line, or your hardware.

VM do not throttle.

What does this site show?

https://samknows.com/realspeed/

Hi Super Solver

Thanks for your quick response.

It says.

RealSpeed is not available on this network

To fix this:

  • Make sure you are on your home network.
  • Make sure you are not connected to a VPN (for example, on a work laptop).

If you continue to get this message, check our help centre

I'm not sure what it's checking. Maybe I have a port blocked. Any idea?

The device that returns 200 Mb/s does not appear capable of drawing data fast enough the max out the M250 service let alone M500.

Even if the M250 service had changed to M500 it would not be noticed.

Any chance a VPN is reducing the speed and preventing the Realspeed test ?

Hi

Ok. I'm using the Virgin Hub 3 box as a modem. Not a router. I'm using a  Asus RT-AC3200 as my router.

No VPN switched on so this is probably the reason I cannot get the check right?

Realspeed works for Hubs(3/4/5) in Router mode only.

Check the Hub's   Configuration (tab) >>> Downstream >>> Max Traffic Rate

What is the figure shown ?

It is the service rate cap in bits per second.

Thank you Client62

Is 500Mbps available in modem mode?

I would would prefer not to reconfigure my whole network. It runs silky smooth and the reason I changed over was because of dropout on my Hub 3.

TIA

That looks right doesn't it?
