Paying for 500mb but only getting 60mbs

Emmiiiiiiiiiiii
On our wavelength

Hi, I am on a 500mbs package but running a speedtest every day this week, it only ever comes back at around 50-60mbs. Can the reliability of this be increased as I am paying for the extra speed and have not been receiving it and am becoming unhappy with the service. Not good for online gaming!

If you think that you have a BB speed problem, then to check the speeds coming in to your Hub properly, and whether they match what you should be getting, you cannot rely on wifi tests, - no BB supplier guarantees those - only speeds "TO" the Hub are guaranteed.
So, can you test speeds directly like this. I

As you expect >100Mbps then connect a 1GB enabled computer/laptop, with up to date drivers, via a NEW and working Cat5e/6a ethernet cable, directly to the Hub which you have put into “modem mode” (https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-media-hub-modem-mode ). This ensures that NO other devices are connected

Test speeds at https://speedtest.samknows.com/ - try on 2 different browsers as Chrome sometimes gives odd results.

If they are still low – boot your device into Windows safe+networking mode - to disable any potentially interfering software - and try again.
There are many posts on here (I have a list of ~30!) where QoS software, anti-virus, unknown/flaky software, old network card drivers, corrupted browsers, bad cables or other connected devices are limiting speeds on tests.

Report back what that gets. For examples of why... see message 7 in the first thread and 9 in in the second and 3 in the third

Hey Emmiiiiiiiiiiii,

Welcome back to the community and thanks for taking the time to post.
I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with your connection at the moment. I have looked into your account and cannot see any issues at the moment. How has your connection been working since you last posted?

Kind Regards,

Steven_L

Hi Steven, a speed-test from today has read 87.77 download and 36.53 upload. This is the highest result I have seen in the past few weeks but still not what I am expecting especially since I only have two devices connected to the internet. It normally hovers around 60mb- when it was first installed I was getting 200+mb on my two devices.

What are these two devices? How are they connected to the Hub?

My name is NOT Alessandro. That's just a tag Virginmedia sticks on some contributors. Please ignore it.

Hi Emmiiiiiiiiiii

Thank you for your reply.

I am sorry to hear you are having issues with the speed.

Can you please confirm if these problems are occurring on a wired or wireless connection?

If wireless, can you please take a look here for further support?

Thanks,

Nat
