Potential VM Scam?

Hey!
I had a man come up to my door, dressed fully in the virgin media attire; he claimed to have the wrong address but I was searching for a broadband providor so I gave him the time of day - asked for an email and a 6 digit password for me to set up my account. Then asked for my sort code to set up the direct debit (All at the door; which I didn't give him.)

He's now texting me from what I think is a personal phone number +447811033012 saying my instillation date is the 27th.

This is probably a scam, right? I mean, the man knows where I live.
