Media Wall Speed Loss

Hi,

When our virgin box was installed we had a direct connection from the virgin box to the Router & TiVo.

Since then we are putting in a media wall and wall mounting the 2 boxes behind the tv. but when the white coax cable passes through a SAT wall socket before going to the router we are having significant speed losses. normally 216mps down to roughly 110mps?

Current:  Virgin Box > Virgin Cable > Silver Splitter > Virgin Cable(s) > Router & Tivo.

NEW:  Virgin Box > Virgin Cable > SAT Socket > Coax in wall > SAT Socket(split) > Virgin Cable(s) > Router & TiVo.

the only thing i can think is maybe the SAT wall sockets or third party imbedded coax are interfering with the signal...? or possibly because we have removed the silver Virgin Splitter ? i was under the impression it was just a splitter with no other purpose? so we have split it via third part sockets to remove the need for the virgin one.

Currently the wall channels haven't been re plastered so we can play around with it or get a virgin engineer out to the house to assist. want it working perfect before we box it all in.

we do still have the virgin splitter and are using it as it was initially installed whilst we find a solution

Photos attached dont show the Lower SAT socket installed just the back box.SAT socket at bottom of chimney. coax round corner to tvSAT socket at bottom of chimney. coax round corner to tvcoax not yet split in photocoax not yet split in photoIMG_2253.jpg

Re: Media Wall Speed Loss

you shouldn't be modifying any of the VM cabling. This is against hte T&C. only VM ae allowed to work on any of the cabling as its part of the larger network and any mistakes or poor conenctions can take downt he network for the area

Re: Media Wall Speed Loss

Hi

Im Not modifying an vm cabling? im just hiding the cables via a wall socket.

not of the VM assets are altered or embedded in the wall

if i was to put the router upstairs id have to do the same thing to reach the cable up there

is this a complete no no ??

Re: Media Wall Speed Loss

via a female SAT wall socket similar to photo. just screwed in as it would be with any normal connection.

then a female socket at the TV side to get the cable to the router.

the only wiring done is between the 2 sockets to connect themScreenshot 2021-04-14 110539.jpg

Re: Media Wall Speed Loss

Ideally if a VM engineer could come out and install a proper VM Socket like photo, thatd be the solution but im not sure how to arrange this Screenshot 2021-04-14 111822.jpgScreenshot 2021-04-14 111915.jpg

Re: Media Wall Speed Loss

You probably injected noise into the network by attempting to terminate the connections yourself, and this has most likely caused a drop in speed and possible drop outs for other people on your network segment as well. You should only use VM approved cabling to connect up routers and TV boxes, and only a VM engineer should be modifying connections in your property.

Re: Media Wall Speed Loss

You can wait on here and a VM staff member may arrange you an engineer.

But if you ring at 8am tomorrow morning you should be able to get through a lot quicker than mid day. Last time I tried the wait time was just 10 minutes.

Re: Media Wall Speed Loss

you may also be charged the £99 non fault call out as you have created the problem and its not a fault.

you can't cut off the connector and use your own port that is a BIG no no!
