Thanks for the advice, yes i changed both of them and work well.
I don't have the option to disable channel optimisation or smart wifi from: advanced settings > wireless > wireless signal
So still confused really.
Is the only option to buy a better router and use Modem mode?
I "think" the "optimisation" was only introduced in the latest firmware update ....608 - are you not on that yet ?
Assuming your network connection is good (lets await expert comment) then I think the best way forward (there are other options though) is to get your own wifi router or access point (good ones can be had for ~£70) and take control of your own wifi environment. If your BB supplier cant guarantee it, why would you rely on them to provide it ?

Hi I am having the same problem and have looked at all the settings and the wifi which had been connected to printer and other devices is not work like it has done for years before the last few weeks.
Really at whits end now. Have phoned Virgin and they told me that the router was too far away from the device, when actually the router is right next to the device I want to use at present and has never been moved for ages, always been in the same place when it worked.
Please can you help with this problem as looking at phoning virgin and reporting a fault to change router.
