W4 London, truly awful speeds (0.6mbs upload) and a BQM that I think shows overutilisation- what can I do

Hi - I've been tearing my hair out the last 6 months trying to understand why my internet is so terrible - and having been hit with a price increase - its spurred me on to understand what is going on.

I discovered BQM, and have enabled my Virgin V2 router to ack ping request and produce a performance graph - and I think I just caught the tail end of whatever was happening yesterday (1/Feb) and the graph shows a long line of red lost packets... anyway it seemed to quiet down and I went to bed, but in the afternoon I've looked at my graph and its all yellow - which I think means the network is saturated... and in my house even if no-one is using the internet, its still showing pure yellow....

So I'm pretty angry that I'm being asked to pay 1/3 more money for a service that has gotten worse over the last year.

Is there anything I can do about this? Is my analysis correct?

I noticed that others are often asked to post their modem stats - so I will post mine here as well in case its something with my hub and not general saturation in my area.

Re: W4 London, truly awful speeds (0.6mbs upload) and a BQM that I think shows overutilisation- what can

As I limp along on the days after - I have asked around other forums and I am wondering if my Hub2 might be long in the tooth and should have been replaced by a Hub3 along the road (I run in modem mode) - but someone said "If your area is oversubscribed you MIGHT get some relief with more channel support in the Hub 3. "

Does anyone know if this is true? Can one of the experts help me look - or possibly things aren't tuned correctly anymore - or is my BQM graph showing that my area in W4 is just saturated to the extreme and it just doesn't get better than this?

Today I am noticing lots of red packet loss in my BQM. Although there is a big red bar which is actually a power failure in my area for an hour - so that obviously isn't a Virgin issue.

Thanks,

Tim

Re: W4 London, truly awful speeds (0.6mbs upload) and a BQM that I think shows overutilisation- what can

I am hoping one of the experts here might wade in and set this straight - as I'm seeing mostly solid yellow graphs in excess of 160ms (and a performance experience that matches - mostly concerning upload speed, but also very sluggish browsing - every click has a distinct pause to it most of the time). Even more concerning, there are tots of measures of 20% + packet loss during the day - at times when I've had difficulty in meetings.

It was suggested somewhere that a newer Hub3 might help a bit (I've been left for many years with a v2).

Anyone have any thoughts - or do I simply have to abandon ship and try BT or eqivalent - which on paper is slower but in reality might be much quicker if things are too congested on Virgin?
