Virgin 4 Hub does not work with Ethernet Switch or Deco M9

Hi Guys

Recently upgraded to the 1 gig fibre and works great when connected directly to my devices (wifi or ethernet), however, when I connect an ethernet switch or my Deco M9 for my home office, the connection drops to 100Mbps.

I have been using CAT6 cables and connect the Virgin hub directly with my MacBook Pro and get the full 1000Mbps. Soon as I use the same cable and use a switch or the Deco it drops.

I have tried two separate switches too (TP-LInk & Netgear) and the same result.

If anyone can help why this would be the case, that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Hello

Which model switches are you using ?

Are the switches gigabit Ethernet ?

Re: Virgin 4 Hub does not work with Ethernet Switch or Deco M9

Is the switch a gigabyte switch? Also do you have any devices connected to the switch that is 10/100 like a smart tv etc, as this sometimes forces the rest of the ports on the switch to drop down to 10/100, try just having the Deco connected on it's own to the switch and if ok then add the rest of the devices and see what it does.

Also have you tried connecting the Deco directly to the router with the router in modem mode?

Don't use the hub in router mode use it in modem mode with a better router.

Hi @Zatoichi

Thank you so much for your post and welcome to our Community Forums! We're so happy to have you as part of the team, though I am very sorry to hear you are having these issues with your connections.

Can I ask you if you have been able to try the advise offered by @legacy1? If so has this helped at all?

Re: Virgin 4 Hub does not work with Ethernet Switch or Deco M9

HI Everyone.

We have both a TP-link TL-SG1008D and a Netgear Gs205 and both do the same.

Even when we connect the Bub to a Deco M9 we only max at 100mb.

The hub is on Router mode as that's is what we are using it for. Tried to have only one thing attached and makes no difference.

Hi @Zatoichi,

Thank you for coming back to us about this!

We're sorry to hear that you're still experiencing this issue.

Would you be able to upload a like BQM graph, so we can monitor your connection?

Please keep us updated if you can.

Thanks,

Setup a Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) at thinkbroadband.com. Just click on Create a new monitor.

Under your graph you just created Click (Share Live Graph)

Copy the text in the “Direct Link” box and paste it on here

There are dozens of threads on here showing how to set up a BQM through think broadband - have a search

That said I see little point since this appears to be a LAN side port negotiation issue - you’ve already said you get 1gig with a computer connected directly.
