Velop WH303 on Hub 4 - Bridge or Router mode

prowl
Dialled in

So I’ve gone from the Hub 3 on 600 to Hub 4 on 1gig and all is good.   Very impressed with the speed and even the setup pages are near instant compared to the Hub 3

Previously I had:
Hub 3 in Router mode - with WiFi on
Velop in Bridge mode.

So I had 2 WiFi networks - well 4 ( 2ghz and 5ghz ) and it all worked fine.

With the Hub 4 this setup the Velop this was dropping connection randomly - I think it was the Hub 4 better channel bouncing was screwing with it.  I’ve turned the Hub wifi off now… so my actual question is should I just let the Velop handle everything and have the HUB 4 in modem mode.   Are there any benefits / problems with either other than some loss of ports.

Thanks in advance.

Absolutely not. How much did the Velop cost you? The VM Hub's tear down cost is about a tenner and most of that was the modem.

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired, 1 WiFi, 1 on PA) Hub5 in modem mode with Apple Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's. On 250Mbps, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

Thanks, but that’s just how to connect which I am good with.

I am wondering if there is any good reason to keep the Virgin Hub as Router over the Velop Mesh.  Is the Hub 3 faster as processing the packets etc.

Well yes, there is that!  I suppose I was shocked at how fast the 4 is to the 3 for the web settings page.

As it is I am thinking of moving to Ubiquti as I want a couple of outdoor nodes,  which velop don’t do.  And that get pricey!

I’ll swap it over.  It’s only a pain as I have a lot of reserved IP addresses for smart devices.
