I totally understand that wi fi is not totally accurate but surely it should not fluctuate like it does? Could be something wrong with the antennas in the router?

Well yes. In that it’s cheap and crummy.

Re: TP-Link Deco

You should be able to do a comparison on the website.

Re: TP-Link Deco

As Gary says..... you can do it here

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/deco/

Just make sure you get one with 1GB ethernet ports (i.e. not the E range). Powerline addition is not really needed IMO.

WiFi6 - will future proof you for getting the faster speeds on the 1GB VM package and Tri-band helps reduce any speed drops caused by back-haul traffic. You will pay more for the last two features but are probably OTT for the average user in an average property

Re: TP-Link Deco

Three of my friends who all live in brick built 3/4 bed semis, just got TP-Link Deco M5 3-packs and all said it is - “absolutely brilliant with excellent wifi speeds in all rooms, the attic and the garden, and the App is a doddle to use”.

So it should be good for you. Remember to connect in the right sequence

Re: TP-Link Deco

M5 is good. M9 is better and has a dedicated wireless backhaul.
