Re: Issues connecting to the internet

"It sounds like you could possibly be just on the wrong side of that border, possibly caused by the XBox, consoles are notorious for using tonnes of data due to the high end graphics"

@David_Bn - Where's the source for your information?

Doing a quick search here's what I find.

Of course, playing a game online will use data. The good news is this won't make a huge dent in your monthly broadband allowance; most modern titles use somewhere between 40MB to 300MB per hour.

Even at the high end, that's less than a third of a standard definition Netflix streaming

Typically most games consoles don't stream graphics from the internet.  The game executables and data are downloaded and installed to the console.  The data that's streamed to the net is generally game data reflecting the characters position etc.

Re: Issues connecting to the internet

Thanks for the response ravenstar68

This can depend on what games are played - Fortnite's average usage is 100MB per hour, whereas Heartstone only uses 3MB.

Here's a link that provides a handy table for us - https://www.whistleout.com.au/Broadband/Guides/how-much-data-do-I-need-for-online-gaming

Also worth noting beneath the table is a small article on how much data you can use when downloading games. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a massive 89GB!

This could also be causing more traffic on the broadband too.

Re: Issues connecting to the internet

100MB/h sounds big doesn't it?  Until you actually convert it to Mb/s - it's actually 0.22Mb/s

http://www.kylesconverter.com/data-bandwidth/megabits-per-second-to-megabytes-per-hour

I rest my case.

Thanks for the response ravenstar68

I don't know of course how much data this user is using, nor do I know if there have been downloads going on, on the XBox either.

I don't have access to the account. It's just a possible answer to the query.

Have a good evening Tim.

Re: Issues connecting to the internet

@Sonofkong Can I ask that you post your router stats?  If you go to 192.168.0.1 and post the information on downstream and upstream as well as network log.  You don't need to log in, the link is on the sign in page.

Hi all.

Thanks for everyones comments and help. Much appreciated. I’ve gone and upgraded to the 200Mbps to see if that helps so fingers crossed it will solve my issue.

Thanks again

Personally I don't think it will.  However I will be happy to be proven wrong.

If you are still having issues please post your stats as requested.

Re: Issues connecting to the internet

Hi ravenstar68.

Im ready for an “I told you so” 😉

So we've upgraded back to the 200Mbps and apart from my bank account being slightly worse off, it’s had zero effect on my connectivity issues.

Ive tried calling the call centre on several occasions, but I’m not getting anywhere because the issue is intermittent.

What is it you needed in terms of screen shots?

i wish they’d just send someone out to look at the issue. It’s so frustrating
