Hub 3 Ethernet and Wireless Issues

Just had my hub 3 replaced due to another issue. This hub is now not working and a new one is being sent in the post.

Whilst i am waiting i now have no wireless and i can only use the hub in modem mode.

My question is, is it possible to power the internet over my Trendnet TPL-406 powerline adaptors.

I have 3 all going to different ps4s. I thought i would still be able to get a connection as they are sort of ca-belled via the trendnet, but it seems the ps4s cannot find an ipaddress.

Could someone be able to tell me if this is do able.

Thank you for you time.

Tony

Re: Hub 3 Ethernet and Wireless Issues

What do you mean you have no wireless? CAN you not see the networks SSID on your devices network connection settings - or can you see them but it isnt connecting?

In the meantime do a factory reset this way.
With the Hub "on" push in the pin on the back/side/bottom of the Hub with the end of a paperclip until you feel it at the “stop point” and hold it there for a "timed" 60 seconds do NOT restart the Hub after that. Leave it 5' or so to stabilise and then your passwords/passphrase for both the Hub settings and the Wifi networks will revert to the two printed on the Hub sticker on its base/side/card.

Now can the devices see the SSID and connect?

Re: Hub 3 Ethernet and Wireless Issues

can see wireless networks etc. all mobiles and tv etc saying WiFi saying 'connected, secured, no Internet'
ethernet will not connect unless in modem mode. have reset hub several times replace cat6 cables and tried numerous laptops. no internet. only in modem mode.
I was hoping my kids could still game via the trendnet as they are sort of wired to their machines.
thanks for the quick reply

Re: Hub 3 Ethernet and Wireless Issues

Wireless connected devices: 6
Ethernet Connected devices: 2
no internet connection. Now back in modem mode.
I think i might have an old sky router in loft will try to use that via the hub and see if i can get wireless that way.
any ideas why the powerlines would not still work?

Re: Hub 3 Ethernet and Wireless Issues

You could stick with the Hub in modem mode and (like I and many others do) use your own wireless router or router + wireless access point(s) or a Mesh system

Dont know the Trendnet's but I suspect that you will need a router if you are in modem mode - others can comment

Re: Hub 3 Ethernet and Wireless Issues

what make of router do you use? Have often thought about going down that avenue. Hub 3 tho has been pretty stable up until now.
Thanks

Re: Hub 3 Ethernet and Wireless Issues

I am a Mac man so have only ever used Apple's Extreme and Express range - however they have withdrawn from the market recently and no longer supply them 😞

Its a bit like asking "what car should I get". It depends really on what additional features you wanted in the wifi router and of course your budget. I wanted to have tight control of my kids internet access times - the Extreme was (is) brilliant for that. Others want good QOS, more processing power, 3x MiMo etc, etc.
A good basic "CABLE" not (v)adsl modem with Gigabit ports and x2 Mimo can be had for £70-150. Some would say that that option is not very flexible and its better to get a router for £50-100 and then wireless access points or a mesh system for the wifi. Sometimes the one wifi router option doesnt solve all wifi issues and cover the deadspots - I myself use the Extreme + x2 Expresses to cover the 5GHz wifi dead spots upstairs.

In any case, there are as many opinions as there are options but here are some recent recommendations from on here from satisfied users of mid priced routers or wireless access points..
