When joining virgin i was told by virgin rep that they inform my old broadband provider and cancel it all, that I have nothing to worry about it as they take care of everything but I am getting bills now from virgin and old provider has anybody else experienced this

If you transfer your landline number from the old provider to VM then that cancels the landline. This can sometimes, but not always cancel a broadband connection too. Anything else with your old provider needs to be cancelled by yourself.
