switchover

I've used the adaptor to switch my in accordance with the instructions. I can now make calls outward and receive inward calls, but the ring tone on my telephone doesn't work. so I don't know when anyone are ringing me. It worked perfectly well prior to the switchover.

Any suggestions?

Hi Reece

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried two handsets, the first one of which certainly dates back to the early 2000s. I have also tried connecting to a BT Duet 210, which is probably no more than ten or twelve years old.

The problem occurs with both of these.

Richard

The 'ringing capacitor' is actually built into a conventional telephone master socket (rather than the phone) but it is not present in the adapter that VM supplies for connection to the VM hub

If your issue is due to the 'ringing capacitor' problem, then some people have reported success on here with this to replace the VM-supplied adapter

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393200143905

it is a generic item so no need specifically to buy the above item. Search online for

RJ11 Plug to BT Socket adapter with Ringing Capacitor

from a supplier of your choice. Usually available for a few pounds.

Hi Richard783,

Thanks for your post, and a warm welcome to our Community Forums.

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with the ring tone on your phone not working. If your handset is from the early 2000s, or even earlier, then it most likely will not be equipped with a Ring Capacitor. Most modern phones provide these, and as a result, the adapter provided does not.

Are you able to try a different phone/handset, to see if the issue remains?

Cheers,

Hi Richard783,

Thanks for providing the post. After taking a look, it does appear that the BT Duel 210 does not come with a Ring Capacitor, so as a result, it is also not ringing when receiving a call.

You may need to replace your current adapter with an RJ11 Plug to BT Socket adapter with a Ring Capacitor to allow these devices to ring. Alternatively, you may wish to replace the handset with a newer model/make.

Thanks,
