no land line after a short power cut

My landline is now not working after a power cut it seems a few people are having this problem as i cannot call virgin this is my last hope at help as the web site says everything is OK and offers no further help. Post code is RM8 2RS any information on this would be great as i need the home phone

Turned out the area had a problem with landlines even though the web site checker said everything was OK, Tom_W1 was extremely helpful it seems like this kind of thing is an ongoing problem having read so many more people having no landline.
