Had to Google what ONT was (= Optical Network Terminator) and BBU (= Battery Backup Unit) before I understood that post so all is now good.

A question about the BBU.  As it contains a SIM card to access 999 and 112 numbers, could that SIM card be swapped for an ordinary SIM to enable any call to be made if the electricity mains failed (more a point of interest really as you'd use your mobile in those circumstances anyway).

The BBU is just a rechargeable battery.

I don't know what BT does but VM will supply an Emergency Backup Line to enable calls to 999 (but not to other non-emergency numbers) over a mobile network if there is a power outage or a failure of your broadband connection.
