Switching to VOIP

Yesterday I called Virgin about connecting my phone to the back of my modem. They said it was an engineers job and I booked a call for next week. I've since had to cancel the call but noticed today that 'telephony is enabled' is showing on my modem.

Does an engineer stil have to come out to complete the set up?

plug a phone in and test it then. You still might need an engineer not sure what is inviolved in the setup on voip

Plugged the phone in. Have a dial tone, but on dialing a number I get a message saying "the service is not available on this line. Please dial 150".

Called VM and appremtly an engineer has to come out. Shame, was hoping it would be self install.

So just to close this out. The engineer turned up today, he made a call on his mobile and passed it to me to give clear the security check. Ten minutes later the phone works. Why this was an engineer visit I have no idea, even the tech says he doesn't understand why. 

So, phone working through modem 😀 but I had to take a day off work so an engineer could turn up and make phone call to activate it.☹️
