I'm due to have my phone changed over in January and will need to connect my existing extensions to the hub. Following on from stevehight's reply a few weeks ago of how to do this my question is this 'is there a limit to the length of cable required to get from the hub to the nearest phone socket' I will need about 8 metres. Would there be any degradation of signal or other problems with a RJ11 plug to ‘BT’ male plug cable of this length.

Hi johnmodeller
Thanks for posting and welcome to the community.
We can offer you a relocation of the hub if that would help?

Hi John_GS,
Thanks for your quick reply it is appreciated.
The hub is just about perfect where it is (on top of a wardrobe in the centre of the house!) and I get a good coverage throughout the house. Unfortunately it is located in a bedroom without a phone socket. I think I have two options.
1. use an 8 to 10 metre RJ11 to Standard phone extension cable to reach the extension socket in the next bedroom
or 2. install a extension socket near the hub and use a shorter RJ11 to standard phone adapter cable.
Either are acceptable to me but I was curious to know if there would be any loss of signal using an extension cable of several metres in length. The main phone hub which contains an answering machine is located in the lounge which would be at the end of about 16 metres of extension cables.

Thanks for coming back to me.
OK what I'll do is ask a colleague regarding this for you, they're in at the weekend and come back to you on it, or they will directly.
Leave this with me 🙂

Hi John_GS,
I'm looking to also connect the Hub to the BT wall face plate in order to connect to the Phone downstairs.
I've done a few searches to see if anyone specifically says it should be a RJ11 to BT Male crossover cable or a straight through cable, but cannot find a definitive statement.
I was wondering which make of RJ11 to BT Male cable you where planning on using?
Cheers
B.

Hi Bobbins
Thanks for posting - it would need to be a Virgin Media faceplate or it won't work
