Change to fibre network

I've received the adapter to change phone service to fibre.

I don't have a landline phone I just use my mobile all the time.

I do use the broadband service.

Does that mean I don't need to do anything about plugging in the adapter (on the basis that I don't actually use the phone service)?

Hi @Sarnie2,

Thank you for your post and welcome to our community forums. We're here to help.

If you've received an adapter but don't have a landline handset to use then I would recommend keeping the adapter somewhere safe should that ever change. The switchover will happen automatically on your local switchover date.

Thanks,

Just a personal opinion but ...

You should probably at least plug in a phone to test if you do have a connection post-switchover. Borrow one from a friend, family member or neighbour to test with or buy one to have around as a spare (sub-£10 from the likes of Currys etc., handy if you ever need to phone VM for free on 150).

There are regular topics on here from people who receive phantom call charges on their bill for calls they have never made. Quite often those customers do have a landline with VM but have never connected a phone to it or never checked it works. This means they are unaware of any problems with the line (such as disconnections or crossed lines which can generate the phantom call charges). When they do occur, these phantom call charges can run into 100's of pounds and take a lot of effort to resolve with VM.

The switchover should not affect your broadband.

Thanks Zach that's really helpful and quick reply!
