Stopping SPAM from being delivered..

As most here are experiencing, been combating spam.

People have provided filters that do, mercifully, seem to have reduced the amount of spam to the point that now, touch wood, I am down to just crap coming from "goodtastestories.com"..  its utter garbage - and any second rate ISP level filter should stop it.

Now, that said, it is being captured by a filter and plonked into the spam folder.

My question is.. how do I stop these from being delivered at all?

The "DISCARD" option does not seem to work (just lands in spam).

Re: Stopping SPAM from being delivered..

What is happening, is this

I have a few filters now.. and if the same term pops up in 2 filters (one saying DISCARD... one saying "File to SPAM") the offending SPAM gets filed as spam. Changing the order of filters does not help...

Basically, it seems, if there is a way for these filters to get the messaged into your mail client, they will... even if the final (or first) instruction is "DISCARD"

Help !

Re: Stopping SPAM from being delivered..

Edit the rule and deselect Process subsequent rules or select 2019-04-11.jpeg next to the listed rule name to achieve same.

Re: Stopping SPAM from being delivered..

Thank you for the answer

I would just like to confirm what happens to subsequent rules, not related to the specific issue in the first rule? I assume they still get run?

Re: Stopping SPAM from being delivered..

Nope..

Apparently if the mail fails two different filter rules... maybe domain and date filters - then the filter that allows the message through takes precedence.

So now I am stepping through the various filters to see which one is capturing this particular mail.

Honestly, it should not be this hard - this is one domain that needs to be stopped.

Re: Stopping SPAM from being delivered..

Hi TryingToBeHappy

Have you not added a coloured flag to each filter? .......

Edit filter / Add Action / Set Colour Flag / different colour for each filter.

That way, when you view your folders (only) in Virgin Web mail - the coloured flag related to the filter that sent it to that folder will be displayed.
