I'm so sick & tired of VM's utterly useless Spam filter! VM is happy to allow any messages about Viagra, Bitcoin scams, phishing attacks through, but blocks many real e-mails! I've had 20 scam e-mails in the last 3 days trying to get me to renew Norton anti-virus (which I don't have). I mark them as Spam each time, but the system never learns!
As I said the system also blocks proper e-mails sometimes - e-mails from a Dutch company I deal with are always blocked, no matter how many times I mark them as not Spam. I even had an individual e-mail from a UK company acknowledging an order classed as spam.
Its useless, and its always been useless, and it never gets better! I wouldn't mind if the system ever learnt - isn't that what modern sophisticated systems are supposed to do???

I'm a Very Insightful Person, I'm here to share knowledge, I don't work for Virgin Media, I'm a VM customer. There are no guarantees that my advice will work. Please read the FAQs

SPAM
I am receiving less spam recently, just a few per week so although I was targeted in the past by spammers/scammers seems to be less of a problem recently.
I did report many scam emails to action fraud- may have done some good but not sure, but forwarding scam emails opens the HTML and could infect computers if the email is set up to infect computers by one of many methods hackers can use.
Some scam emails can direct you to a fake website which looks genuine but wants you to type in your passwords etc which then enables hacking.
The TV programmes rip off Britain bbc 1 and cannel 3 programme tonight 4 episodes have recently featured the methods use by email scammers and hackers as well as other scams such as fake web sites which are top of the search list but are fake. I often check the website certificates are valid by clicking on the padlock symbol. Many scams start off with phone calls which I was getting in the last few weeks.
These programmes mentions are available on virgin tv catch-up or iplayer , itv hub.
I am getting a few odd emails with no content from scammers. I do not interact at all with these scam emails other than read them, or it alerts the spammer you are reading emails and I block images (HTML) IN SETTING by not ticking as this stops the images with hidden pixels (used in most advertising now) which provides data back to the sender.
Virgin are detecting all of these as spam which is good.
Recent scam emails saying business transaction please reply and subject PRIVATE, keep coming different email sender each time, Australia, Venezuela.
I have had other scam emails, saying Documents Pending, lottery etc
Thanks for the tip to use an email clients for detecting spam, I have tried a few free ones but presume the good ones need a subscription.
I have used thunderbird in the past but it did not detect spam unless you attach spam software but I could not get that to work either as it works with pop bit not imap, some android apps can detect spam well if using tablets or mobiles.
At the moment I use web mail and rely on virgin to detect the spam, if one gets through I mark it as spam and it goes the the spam folder.

The limit for blocking spam should be unlimited. The VM suggestion of deleting blocked email addresses is not the answer really and others have suggested copying a rule into the system which also fails. How can we get round the d''''kheads causing this inconvenience. I fell like replying but that only confirms an active email account to them and would entice more intrusions. Not happy customer when paying so much money to VM/O2.
