Hi folks. I’m trying to set up a new email address on my account. I opened my emails went into folders and clicked on Add an email account. It takes me to a box with two bars, your email address and the second bar is your password. When I enter the details into the boxes and click Add I get a message saying auto configuration failed. Can anyone tell me how to set up a new email please. I could go to Google but would rather keep them all in the one place. I did notice in the forum that there is a list of available addresses but that never came up. Thanks.

Gmail is one option along with Outlook and the many other free email suppliers.
You might have difficulty adding a Gmail account to VM webmail due to gmails security settings.

It is no longer possible to create new virginmedia.com email addresses.
You should still be able to add a third party email address to the VM webmail page via the method you are using. You will need to have already created the third party email and have access to it and know what the IMAP and SMTP server settings are to enter into the webmail settings page.

Thanks Graham. Are there any in particular that are more compatible with VM webmail given that don’t allow me to add a new VM email address.

Hey @DCas, thanks for reaching out to us.
Sorry to hear you're having issues with the Virgin Media account and email linking.
You may wish to use Outlook / iCloud email addresses and with those you will be able to link it to your Virgin Media account.
As a rule of thumb, majority of email domains are compatible, as Graham mentioned earlier, it's just Gmail that has an issue sometimes.
Let us know how if you need any more help.
Kind regards.

We have been with you for over 18 years and have old @ntlworld email accounts.
Why have you stopped us from adding new email accounts.
Is this another example of dumbing down your services but still increasing our bills.
Lets face it on your lowest package that we now have, due to the expensive cost of others.
80% of the channels we can get for free elsewhere. The rest are clutter.
Why are you asking us to use another email service which we don't want.
My wife and I both have personal accounts for friends and family hence no spam.
I have a second for contacting web addresses who may sell information hence spam.
I want a third for my web page and now I can't use you.
We also can't change our account email address inbox while still in emails section
Have to in and out of Virgin every time. G o back to how it was.
Oh! and by the way your new web page layout it rubbish all adds buy this buy that everywhere.
Marketing services and products for more cash and you cut our email......ROFLMAO

Hi @RayDHK
Welcome back to the community,
Sorry to hear of your concerns that we have removed the ability to add additional emails mailboxes.
Our email service is a free service we offer to customers with an active broadband service with us. Once a customer decides to leave our broadband service, any emails that have been created and attached to the account are closed and completely removed from access 90 days after the disconnection date. We recommend using an email client that is not connected to another service, so these are not lost if you ever decide to leave the service, such as Gmail and Outlook.
This is detailed within the Terms & Conditions (specifically section D, paragraph 6), which reads "If this agreement ends, your right to use that email address will also end and you will no longer be able to use the email address, so please make sure you have an alternative email address and let your contacts know of the change, as we cannot do this for you."
We also detail this in the Acceptable Use Policy (section 6.5 under Email use), which reads "It is your responsibility to back up the contents of your Virgin Media email account. Upon suspension or termination of services the content may be removed and permanently deleted by Virgin Media without notice."
Along with all of this, it's also explained on the Cancelling my Virgin Media contract help page, with the section in point 3 being called You'll lose access to your Virgin Media Mail service.
The ability to add additional emails has currently been removed, my apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

It's pretty clear that Virginmedia want to get out of providing email, and as a quick browse through this forum will show it's already giving problems for many users.
This would be a good time to move all your email accounts to another provider, while you still have plenty of time to transfer your contacts and important data over to a more reliable platform.

I don't understand the relevance of your reply..??
I want to open a new email address not close my Virgin Media account.
That being said I really, really have on a few occasions over 18 years.
The only relevant part to me in the whole reply was,
"The ability to add additional emails has currently been removed, my apologies for any inconvenience this may cause."
So hence my frustration and tone of my OP
