Right, I have just run the thunderbird batch file and tried to send and email from my laptop that is using my iphone as a wifi hotspot on 4g and no surprises, the email didn't send.

and here is the line from the smtp log file.

[9016:Main Thread]: I/SMTP SMTP Response: 525 5.7.13 Authentication Denied (VM304)

So I'd pretty much conclusively say that nothing has changed and I'm at a bit of a loss as to what the IT dept. have fixed

Sorry to bat this one back to you, 

Any thoughts.....?

So it would seem that in the last 24hrs I  can now send emails from from my errant secondary email account. Hurrah!!

Problem solved I thought, although strangely Gareth_L hasn't been in touch to tell me that everything has been fixed, I was a tad suspicious......

Turns out I had good reason to be, because I can no longer send emails from my primary account now.

Hi Did they sort out your emails as I am having exactly the same problem

Gadgetrescue have spent hours on my pc  and achieved absolutely nothing just wasted over 4 hours

If I go to a wifi area not my house I can sent and receive perfect

But back on my virginmedia Nothing unable to send (VM303)

Rang virginmedia they say no problem there end Gadget rescue say nothing wrong with my settings

so stuck in the middle of so called techie people who have not got a clue

VIRGINMEDIA support stinks 28 minutes to answer phone

only to be told all ok there end and I need to speak to gadgetrescue

what a load of wasters

Yes it was sorted in the end, however my problem was very different to yours in so far as it didn't work on any wifi or mobile network.I fear yours is something else entirely. You have my sympathy as far as telephone support and gadget rescue are concerned and I would urge you to seek help on this forum by starting your own thread, the moderators and super-users on these boards are extremely helpful and very patient. It was their help and persistence that finally got it sorted out, however it will possibly require time and patience on your part.
