Sometime today 200 + emails that were in my VMedia inbox have simply vanished without trace ! I have checked junk/bin and other folders and they aren’t there?
emails go back 4/5 years and I really need them.
Sent items are still visible it’s just ‘InBox’ mail affected ?
wife’s account no problem and we use same desktop etc .. any advice gratefully received?🤞

Impossible to be sure but suspicion has to be on the Mail app on your iPhone. It is too easy to inadvertently delete emails on the phone (whether IPhone or Android) and the IMAP protocol used by all email apps and clients then dutifully deletes it from the device and the VM email server itself.
Good idea to change the password to play safe.

Sadly, it's impossible to be sure why those emails have disappeared but there are a few things you could check:
You don't say if you use an email app or client to manage your emails or whether you use the VM Webmail service on the VM website. If you use an email app you should check the inbox on the app and the VM webmail account for those missing emails.
Also, if you use an email app, it may be that the emails somehow got deleted from the app and the app's IMAP email protocol then deleted them from the inbox in your Webmail account as part of its synchronisation process.
To make sure you are seeing all the emails in your inbox you could follow the advice here https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Emails-arriving-but-not-viewable and make sure that the emails are sorted in date order.
There is always the possibility that your VM email account has been compromised. Hackers have been know to deleted emails from the email account to hide the fact that there are emails arriving that relate to their illegal use of your email address. You should consider securing your email by changing the password and the "Password recovery question ". Sign in from this link https://my.virginmedia.com/home/signIn using the email address and existing password. That will take you to the relevant "My Virgin Media" account for that email address.
Finally, if the missing emails cannot be found in your VM Webmail account, your email app or any backup file your may have kept then sadly they are unlikely to be recoverable. As far as I am aware VM do not kept backups.
I hope that you find that helpful.

If they had been inadvertently deleted ( I have no recollection of doing so ) wouldn’t they be in the junk bin for me to recover ? Thanks

Sorry for the delay in coming back.
Good point but don't forget that VM say they automatically delete emails from the Trash folder after 7 days although that may not be a factor in this case,
However, as I said, sadly it is difficult to ever be certain why emails go missing.
