Email password not working

Hi, we have got an issue with my wifes email. She can log onto Virgin Media with her usual email address and password.  When she tries to check her email, it comes up with it being unavailable.  It recommends changing password,  but when she enters date of birth then memorable word, it just freezes and will go no further. Any help please?
