Chromebook - can't sign into virgin media email

Ayshi
Tuning in

A new problem has occurred stoppping me from getting into my virgin emails on my chromebook (I can access via my android phone)

'Connection error - the service is not available right now. Retry' this doesn't have any effect

It's maddening trying to get through to Virgin Media - is it even possible? Meanwhile, I'd appreciate advice on the email problem please.

Sounds like a corrupt cookie stored in the browser you are using. You can check that by:

1) Accessing the VM website using a different browser

or..

2) Try using a private or incognito window in your existing browser. Depending on which browser you use you can open a private or incognito browser window by using the keyboard shortcut combination Ctrl-Shift-N or Ctrl-Shift-P

Both 1) and 2) will result in the browser downloading a fresh copy of the necessary cookies. So if the website works ok you know it's corrupt cookie stored in your usual browser. The final step will then be to delete the VM cookies from your usual browser and you can then go back to using the standard browser window rather than using a private / incognito browser.

Try that and see how it goes.

By the way, you could consider marking my earlier post as a "Helpful answer", (click on the Post Options at the top of that post.) That way other people with the same problem will have a better chance of finding the answer without having to create their own post on the forum. Just a thought.😉

This solution worked for me too, thanks. It would help if you could explain why an incognito page is needed with chromebooks.

When accessing a website incognito the browser does not use any cookies saved in the browser.

If incognito works that indicates one of the VM cookies that are saved in the browser has become corrupted and is stopping the page displaying as it should. I would expect that if you delete the VM cookies from your browser you will be able to access the web page using a normal window.
