New app Architecture of Radio is set to make waves, or at least make them a thing of beauty

With vector graphics evocative of Atari’s 1983 classic Star Wars arcade game - Architecture of Radio, a new app by Netherlands-based interactive producer Richard Vilgen is about to make waves, or at least decipher them.

The app, coming December to iOS and android in early 2016, allows users to visualize Internet connectivity around them through a dreamlike demonstration of the waves and signals all around us. Richard refers to his creation as a ‘field guide to the hidden world of digital networks.’

And it looks stunning.

A field guide to the hidden world of digital networks.

In addition to WiFi, the app will be able to pick up signals from mobile towers and observation satellites – and for an app that wouldn’t be out of place in Interstellar – this sounds game changing.

But is it useful?

If you know a thing or two about the way WiFi works, you’ll know that in the home the positioning of the hub and a nice clean WiFi Channel are key to keeping things ultrafast when a wired connection just won’t do.

The ability for users to hold up a tablet and instantly visualize tweaks to their home network [or find a sweet Wi-Fi spot on the go] could allow for some serious improvement to Wi-Fi experience all round.

Verdict = Mind blown.
