Cancelling a contract - cooling off period

Good morning. I took out a new contract on 12 March and cancelled within the 14 day cooling off period but I've been told I have to give 30 days notice to terminate the service - is that right? I'm now stuck with Virgin TV and internet until 22 April even though I've had Sky fitted. Thanks.

Re: Cancelling a contract - cooling off period

That's incorrect.  You're using consumer rights to terminate the contract, that should become effective immediately, with no charges payable.  In your shoes I'd send a letter by recorded delivery cancelling the contract to Virgin Media, Sunderland, SR43 4AA and make sure you keep the proof of delivery.

Thanks Andrew. That's what I thought, by cancelling the contract I'd cancelled the service but several people at Virgin are taking a different view. I've already cancelled in writing.

Fingers crossed it gets sorted - there's been a number of complaints about VM failing to process cancellations lately.

Re: Cancelling a contract - cooling off period

Thanks Andrew.

I have no confidence they will cancel the contract correctly so I'm left paying for a month's service I don't want or need. It's this type of customer service that made me leave.
