Rugby League

I have a Virgin TV service and subscribe to Sky Sports just for the Rugby League.  However, it looks like this year the matches are only available via Sky Sports+ on the red button which doesn’t work via my TiVo, which I have had for years.

I can access Sky Sports+ on the iPad using the Sky Sports app but the app blocks mirroring to my TV. My LGTV has pretty good apps, iPlayer is much better through the TV than TiVo but there is no way to access Sky Sports + I can see.

Is the only way to get the Rugby League on the main TV to change to Sky or upgrade to TV360 or is there a hack.

If I stay with Virgin, is it worth the upgrade to TV360, it looks like I will lose all existing recordings and it is not problem free.

If I did decide to upgrade the box I can’t see a way to request the change on the VirginMedia website, is there a link or a magic incantation that will get me through to the right place on the web or phone?

Sky have made the decision not to offer the full Sky Sports + service to anyone with TiVO boxes. The TiVO V6 has access to the live football multi-screen service, but nothing else. To get the full service you need either of the Horizon platforms VM offers (V360 or Flex). V360 has recording facilities (although you cannot record content on Sky Sports + that is not listed in the guide). Flex does not record.

Sky Sports+ is identical on the V6 & TV360 . It carries all sports on both boxes, there's no difference.

All the facilities you are missing from the TiVo, are available on the V6 - this runs the exact same software you're used to, but on the exact same newer hardware that the TV360 uses.

You're correct to assume that TV360 is a completely different software platform to TiVo/V6, and you'll lose your recordings with any box-swap in any case.

But as mentioned - the full Sky Sports+ HD multi-screen is available on both V6 & TV360, there is no difference in functionality.

If you have VM's broadband you can get a free upgrade from TiVo to V6.

Whilst completely true, I suspect you may need some persistence & patience with VM-CS in trying to get one. They're far more likely to try to sell you a conversion to TV360 than a straight upgrade to V6.

That's a completely fair point and people should be warned that - for the time being - they are entitled to a V6 upgrade from a TiVo.

  • Hi JonB65

    Welcome to the Community Forums.

Sorry to hear you've not been able to access Sky Sports +

The TiVo can view limited Sky Sports+ content on CH 508 in HD (or SD on CH 518), but there'll be no Sky Sports+ Red Button to access the app on your TV.  So to be able to access this on your TV through your set-top box, you would need to upgrade this.

We did send out email communications regarding customers with TiVo still on their TV service offering a free upgrade. Did you wish to upgrade the set-top box or are you looking more for a workaround?

You wouldn't be able to mirror to your TV as this would be restricted by the app's licensing/copyright agreement.
