The will be no harmful electricity in the box or cables, so you don't need to worry about that.
Virginmedia might send someone to repair it, or if you would feel safer to have it removed altogether you could ask for that instead. If they don't want to take it away it would be a simple job for you or a friend with very basic tools.

OK. Wait for a staff person to pick this up and see if they can help. Usually they are reluctant to do anything for a non-subscriber, but if you are really worried about safety they may make an exception.

We would have to advise that if the service is no longer active, and there is no desire to take up our services, our field engineers would not attend to this, and you would therefore be free to have the box removed at your own leisure.
As per the advice from jpeg1, we wouldn't consider this to be a risk as there would be no live electricity running through any cabling associated with Virgin Media
