WiFi Wins

Here are 3 easy wins to help you get more from your Hub. Follow them and you could enjoy a better, faster WiFi connection all over the house.

WiFi Win #1

Find your Hub's happy place

Make sure to keep your Hub out in the open. That means out of cabinets, next to the telly, not behind it, and away from fishbowls. These objects can block and slow WiFi.

Signals from baby monitors and cordless phones can also interfere with WiFi. Aim for one metre of clearance.

Plus, keep the Hub upright, with its lights facing into the room. So your Hub's strongest WiFi signal goes outwards - not into the floor.

WiFi Win #2

Scan for WiFi blackspots with the Virgin Media Connect app

When you download and register for the Virgin Media Connect app, and link it with your Hub 3, you can scan your home to see if you have a WiFi blackspot in a hard-to-reach room.

Just tap 'Start the scan' and let the app work out if something's getting in the way of your WiFi. If the scan finds a blackspot, you can order a WiFi Booster to tackle it - right through the app.

WiFi Win #3

Give your home WiFi a boost

>Our Intelligent WiFi technology is designed to keep your household online, doing what they love. But some hard-to-reach rooms might get a weaker signal. This can be because your house is big, has thick walls, or wall insulation is slowing the signal.

If scanning with the Virgin Media Connect app shows you have a WiFi blackspot, you can order a WiFi Booster at no extra cost if you're a Virgin Fibre customer with Full House TV and above, or £3 extra a month if you have Virgin Fibre with us on another package.

It's a clever gizmo that uses your home electrical wiring to make WiFi signals go further.

The Wi-Fight is on.

  • I just got an email about WiFi pods now being included in my package, but how can I order one? I don't have WiFi in my back bedroom.

  • I am unable to use my wifi correctly in one bedroom ( my home office) I can’t get the connect app to find my hub to run the scans.  How can I go about ordering this online as  due to a family  bereavement I don’t want to spend along time on the phone.

  • How do you get the boosters? My WiFi doesn't reach to the far side of the house

    On our wavelength

September 2013 and the connect app still seems troublesome, when I eventually got it to work - it scans rooms with wifi ok, but if I go where the wifi doesn't reach after maybe 5 minutes, I just get an error. Please tell me how to order those booster pods online, the app refers me to the My Virgin Media website but I can't see how to order there - I really don't want to have to phone in. Last week it took me 48 mins on hold

  • When I stand next to the hud my phone gets 14 download speed when the router speed shows 270...  I don't think I'm winning!

I have fibre optic with Virgin , and this is basically the same question I raised before. Now things are moving- on tech wise regarding a way forward for a basement flat to get a respectable phone signal without going outside, round the corner etc etc etc

If I have WiFi , then why can I not use it for a phone signal plus computers?.

Does fibre optics with Virgin have a wireless option?
The answer = Yes . & I have a wireless router used on two machines.

The correct phone will no doubt enter the equation but I need comments on WiFi to sort this out first.

Admin: move it if the question goes somewere else.

  • How do I get wifi boosters sent to me? I've done a scan on the app and the best I get is 29Mbps right down to 9Mbps.

  • Turning off "Channel Optimisation" in the Router UI really needs to be in this FAQ. It being enabled has a seriously negative effect on wifi connectivity and authorisation when handshaking to the router.
