  • From next week, new and existing customers who take M500 or Gig1 broadband packages will be able to enjoy updated upload speeds of 52Mpbs and 104Mbps at no extra cost – six times faster than the UK’s average upload speed
  • Customers will also be able to download the Virgin Media Connect app to check their new upload speeds
  • This free of charge uplift follows Virgin Media O2 boosting speeds for all M100 and M200 customers at no extra cost at the end of 2022

From next week, Virgin Media O2 is starting to increase upload speeds for even more of its broadband customers at no extra cost, offering them extra value from their broadband services.

The boost will see the average upload speed for Virgin Media’s M500 service increase from 36Mbps to 52Mbps, with the average upload speed for Gig 1 services rising from 52Mbps to 104Mbps – six times faster than the UK’s average.

To benefit from the improved upload speeds, including a faster experience when video calling, gaming and sending large files, existing customers who are eligible for the increase simply need to reboot their Hub by switching it off, waiting 5-10 seconds and switching it on again, or restarting it via the Virgin Media Connect app. Once completed, customers can also check their new upload speeds by running a speed test on the Connect app.

New customers who take M500 or Gig 1 broadband will also be able to enjoy the faster upload speeds, with the increase being applied to these packages as standard.

Gareth Turpin, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, said:
As demand for fast and reliable connectivity continues to soar, we’re boosting upload speeds for millions of our broadband customers at no extra cost. In the last year, we’ve seen record upstream demand on our fixed network as a result of more people regularly working from home, using video calling apps and new advances in gaming, so now more than ever we’re laser focused on offering our customers a service that supports them now and in the future.

This free of charge boost comes just months after Virgin Media O2 increased speeds for all M100 and M200 customers at no extra cost, meaning that once this speed upgrade is complete, Virgin Media O2 will have boosted upload speeds for 4.5m broadband customers since November 2022.

    On our wavelength

So, as its been almost 4 weeks since I first posted my message on this 'community' I've had no reply and no other assistance from virgin media.

I've called twice and been told incorrect information on both counts.

If the customer service advisors on the phone can't get their information correct, even by doing a Google search!!!

I'm taking my business to cityfibre and Vodafone, as I'm totally fed up of the lack of any person that can give me ANY tangible response as to why we've all waiting so long for the service the virgin promised us many years ago!!

    Bye bye and good luck!!

  • I’m area 20 and have given up rebooting after weeks of trying and still only getting 52meg upload. It’s the usual VM lack of response that is disappointing.

  • Also area 20 and upload speed has dropped back to 26.27 while download is also not the advertised rate and is at 861.19 - however remove surfshark and I get dl at 947.16 and ul at 35.85

Ill be getting 1GIG installed on the 29th of this month. Hopefully I'll get these upload speed boosts as well can't wait!

  • Area 20 also. Just like @banhamm, I'm fed up with rebooting the Hub5 every week to find that there is no change to the upload speed. VM did notify me of work being done in the area a week ago, but no change. Not acceptable!!!

  • Well, it looks like Area 20 may have finally received the upgrade. The modem config now shows an upstream burst rate of 110Mbps. However, a Speedtest is only showing a maximum of 74Mbps, still falling soft of the promised 104Mbps.

If you are listening, you really must do better Virgin Media!

  • I'm also in area 20 and while my download speeds are at a very respectable 923.54 Mbps the upload speeds are still way below the 52 that they used to be and certainly nothing like the 100 Mbps being touted. The speed this morning is 16.63 Mbps - I reckon this comes within what might be described as an infringement of the trades description act. However, having just rebooted the router and given it a few further moments to settle down I'll test again now - 947.01 and 21.39   -  will test again later.

  • 943.00 and 29.53

    946.44 and 19.67

Not worth any further measurement I think.

  • Good afternoon moderators

Is there any update on area 20 in Bromley? I am still stuck at 52 upload.

    thanks
