Huzzah! 🍾

After many years (8!) on the previous iteration, we’re delighted to announce our Virgin Media Community has had an upgrade.

Aside from the fact that it's been a while, it’s also given us an opportunity to greatly simplify things and put everything on a crash diet 🍔;

  • We’ve reduced the number of different layouts (over 20 😱) to around 5. This should mean it’s easier to get to grips with particularly for newer users.
  • We’ve removed a lot of redundant background code that should speed it up as well 🏎. It also allows us to do platform updates in the future without a constant fear 😱 of something breaking.
  • No more going backwards to go forwards! There’s now a persistent navigation bar along the top on desktop view or within the menu bar on mobile view so it reduces the instances where you need to go back to a previous page to navigate the site.

  • It used to be possible to search on a username and return all results from that person in date (or other) order. This was really useful when trying to find answers to which a particular contributor has shown considerable knowledge in specific areas.

    Now a search on a username appears to return all posts (with full thread content) which have been contributed to, not just the posts they have made.

    Perhaps I'm missing something easy/obvious, but how is it possible to search on a username which returns all that users posts - preferably in date order - without the full threads associated with their contribution?

    As I said, Solo, they either want to discourage us from bothering them (fail) or they don't know how to sensibly design a forum (fail).  I was booted out as a Superuser for criticising the Yah-OK lot when they took the forum over.  There is absolutely no hope of things improving in relation to the Forum.

  • Not good.

    What's also disappointing is the fact that Kei_M specifically asked for comments and questions and has so far failed to respond to any of the issues raised.

    Usually staff follow the example set by their managers but if the rest of the VM/02 support teams follow the example set on this forum then....... oh dear!

    We have seen for years now that all VM staff at every level are limited closely to defined roles and are not allowed any degree of initiative to help customers.

    So once the petty cash had been spent on the new website there was nothing that Kei_M could do to change it.
