Ultimate Volt and o2 sim change tariff

LoneSpeaker
Superfast

I am a subscriber to Ultimate Volt with the included £25 a month O2 sim.

O2 are now offering me an upgrade, and as I need a new phone, I figured I would take them up on this.

My question is, if I upgrade my £25 a month account with O2 to say £40 a month (with new device) will everything carry on as normal or will virgin try and ask me for more money for the TV/broadband side because I changed the sim package?

Thanks.

Hi LoneSpeaker,

Thank you for your post!

It's a really valid question - one that I am sure others will benefit from the answer 🙂 - With this nothing would change as when the service is taken out a number/SIM is generated, as long as this is attached there would be no problem. Nothing would change our side!

I doubt anything will change at all - but for your own peace of mind, if it does in an extremely rare circumstance. Drop me a message and I will be more than happy to put things right.

Cheers,

Ryan.

That's good to know for the future. Cheers for that answer Ryan.

Thank you Ryan_N for the very reassuring answer.  I will go ahead and order the upgrade.

Hi Ryan,

I've got a similar query, same as OP I'm on the Ultimate Volt package paying £25 to O2, however one of the upgrade options I have is to switch to a £15 a month 30gb sim.

Am I OK to switch to this? I don't need unlimited data 30gb would be fine and I save £10 a month.

Hopefully it is the same answer but just wanted to check 😊

Thanks.

This is a very good question by kab1892. I would probably like to do something similar if it's possible, and allowed, to do this. Could one of the mods give us a definitive answer to this please?

Hey there @Topgun, thanks for reaching out to us!

And I can confirm that if you were to make any changes on your O2 side but still have a SIM with O2 then that would be fine, as VOLT requires services registered at the address with both Virgin Media and O2.
If it is Ultimate Volt you have, then you would need to keep the unlimited O2 SIM plan.

May I ask what service you have with us? Let us know 🙂

Kind regards.

Hi Llyas,

As per my question above as I'm on the Ultimate Volt package, I need to stay on the unlimited data plan with O2?

It's a bit overkill for my needs but I don't want to mess anything up with my Virgin contract.

Annoyingly a family member is also on ultimate volt but was given a £10 a month sim with O2 which was much cheaper but I wasn't offered that option when I signed up.

I've just had a very protracted online chat with O2 over the same subject. I asked the question 'does this affect my Virgin Volt contract'. Both operators (I was passed through to a second one) bipassed the question.

As for the actual 'deal' I was far from impressed. At the end of the day all I want is a new phone to stick my current O2 Volt unlimited SIM in. That seems an impossible ask.I was offered a 36 month contract with 250GB data and a Google Pixel 6 Pro for £48. After some 'tense' negotiations they reduced it by £2 if I went with 50gb data. Then they played the 'you work for the NHS card with me so you get 25% discount. That made it £40 for 50gb and 3 years.

Interestingly if you do their My O2 online configurator the £48 / 250GB /3 years deal works out at £26 for the SIM. Their unlimited option works out at £33 for the SIM comapred to the £25 for the Volt/O2 deal.
