Rep promised to cancel O2 sim

We had a rep come to the door and sell us a Virgin internet package - we were looking to move from our previous provider at the time. We took out the contract which included an O2 sim which the rep said would come, then he would cancel it. We let him know when it arrived and he came and picked up the sim card promising to cancel straight away. We are now however receiving breach of contract emails and letters with outstanding payments.. We can't get in touch with the rep, Virgin told us to contact O2, we failed the security questions as we didn't set up the contract and we've been into the shop and there's nothing they can do. 

We're now stuck between O2 and Virgin and this rep has the actual sim card! What do we do??
