TiVo recordings not accessible after channel deletion

Can someone please explain why a ton of shows I had recorded on my TIVO are now no longer accessible as the channel they were recorded from (e.g. Good Food) is no longer available?

Don't get me wrong, I can totally understand shows from Catch Up or On Demand disappearing if the channel has gone. However I assumed that if I had recorded said show onto the TIVO HD they would be available regardless.

Re: TiVo recordings not accessible after channel deletion

Where channels are no longer broadcast, I believe recordings are only available for a further three month? Period.

Re: TiVo recordings not accessible after channel deletion

As your TiVO has a SCART socket you can copy recordings to a DVD recorder. I've got tons of stuff doing just this.

Yes and no.. Ordinarily, there's of course no limit on keeping recordings as long as you subscribe to the channel. Remembering that TiVo is intended for delayed viewing and not long-term archiving... hence the option to copy programs to DVD.

If a channel ceases broadcasting, Virgin tend to keep the EPG-data open for a period of time to let those recordings still work. 3 or 6 months is the common time, after which the data is removed and the recordings will stop working.

Surely that is illegal I hope you got in touch with the copyright holder and asked there permission

Re: TiVo recordings not accessible after channel deletion

Of course it's legal otherwise VM would have got into trouble for allowing this. And I've still got a copy of the instructions from VM on how to do this.

Re: TiVo recordings not accessible after channel deletion

How do you transfer recordings to DVD?

I was told categorically by VM themselves that this was not possible.

For you, it’s no longer possible if you can’t play them.

Re: TiVo recordings not accessible after channel deletion

If you have a TiVO you connect a DVD recorder to it by their SCART sockets, play a show and hit the record button.
