Hum tv Europe

Tuning in

My hum tv disappeared off my channels and I emailed Virginmedia.  Unsure of any reasons behind this but each time I query the asian channels that are unavailable and under represent the UK diverse community, I just receive a bog standard letter from them.  Nothing new here from virgin media but the tv package is not worth the price for repeated channels making up their 245+ bundles.

Anyone else unhappy with the value for money and non-inclusion and non-diversity representing the UK population?

My advice would be if you want specialist channels to use a services that specialises in them.

Virgin Media isn’t exactly an eastern entertainment brand and don’t really expect it ever become one, the fact is a lot of options are missing from the TV brand, no Polish, French, German......

At the end of the day it is up to the channel owners themselves as to what TV platforms they choose to join. Argue as much as you like, but it a commercial market & every channel is treated the same no matter what it’s content is. Channel owners have to consider 1) the advertising revenue they can earn from being on a platform 2) the price the platform charges against the potential customer base they can access. All platforms are definitely not equal. If an owner joins the Astra satellite platform for instance, they get access to the whole of Europe for one fee, plus joining Sky gives them 98% coverage of the UK. Joining Virgin on the other hand, while cheaper, only gives access to less than 50% of UK homes.

Virgin media did have these specialist channels, they have started to drop them one by one.  The annoying thing is, they don not even respond back, then send a letter that they have been trying to contact you without any success!!!

The trick they use to support this is that in the past when they did call, and I answered, they immediately hang up!!

Hopefully will change my contract when its up for renewal, its not worth it in the long run as the customer services are very unhelpful and regurgitate the reading of the same words from a plaque!!  It has in my life been the worst customer services ever.

Virgin is losing channels, so is Sky, as the cost of being on linear channel platforms becomes more expensive. Many of the minority channels are moving to internet only services & charging customers directly for using them, as it is a far smaller cost base & there is no “middle man” to pay.
