Cancelling account

I need to cancel my account for tv, broadband and phone. I signed up to a 12 month contract with the view to cancelling once finished or seeing if I could obtain a similar payment. As the phone lines are busy (I’ve tried on four separate occasions totalling 2 hours on hold) I cannot get through to anyone to cancel the contract. I’ve already had the bill emailed to me and the new payment is nearly double what I’ve been paying. I’ve been laid off work and simply cannot afford it. I’m concerned that I’m not going to be able to get hold of anyone and I’m going to be charged. My only option would be to cancel the direct debit and let it bounce but I don’t want my credit to be affected. Any suggestions?

Re: Cancelling account

I am afraid you will have to keep trying on the phone, I do not recommend cancelling direct debit as will be transferred to debit collectors and will also be flagged on your credit report.
