Cable depth in garden

Morning. I am about to have a large conifer removed that requires stump grinding. There is a metal plate in path CATV within inches of conifer base which I am presuming is the point where the cable enters my property to provide my cable tv. How deep are cables in the ground? It’s a very old installation .. over 25 years ago.

Re: Cable depth in garden

Not very deep. When the practice was to routinely bury cables (and even when it is done now) the installers simply used a spade depth to dig a slit trench to drop the cable in.

So tell your workpeople to very be careful. The cable is black and unlikely to be easily spotted. But sometimes it is shrouded in green tunnelling.

And it is lovely to answer a question like this. You'd not believe the number of times we are told a cable has been cut because people didn't make advance enquiries.
