as per subject, it will record first program but not record second program on same channel but get the first program recorded twice?

I've had TiVo since 2001 in various forms and never seen that.
The second recording may overlap and so the and of the first recording is at the beginning.
Have you tryed fast forwarding on the 2nd recording?
Take the padding out of the recordings so the first recording ends at the same time the second one starts (no overlap).
Because the box uses the same tuner for both recordings any padding can cause issues.

there is a two minute between recordings!
have tried fast forwarding but there is nothing to watch!

I am sorry to hear you're having issues with your recordings. Can I ask if your a single box or multi-room users and if so, is the issue occurring on more than one box?

it is single box single room.
Thank you for confirming, can you please confirm if you have already rebooted this and checked the wires are inserted securely between the Tivo box and the TV?
