Why is VM still launching new channels in both SD and HD?

Even a CRT connected via a scart cable can display an HD channel, so I don’t understand who SD is aimed at?

We wanted to let you know a few changes to your Sky TV channels.
From 1st September:
Enjoy a brand-new Sky channel, Sky Max
Packed with blockbuster dramas, comedy entertainment and more, get stuck in on channel 121 (SD 122).
Sky Comedy is updating to become the home of all Sky Original Comedy
Catch the best comedies around on channel 123 (SD 135).
Sky One is changing its name to Sky Showcase
Showing all the top programmes from across Sky, it's taking over channel 109 (SD 110).

Sky-branded channels often have different TV tiers for SD & HD versions.

We don't know the bundling for these new channels yet, but if it's anything like the existing ones, HD will only be included in Maxit/Full-House/XL tiers.

You cannot get HD from SCART; if a set top box receives a live HD broadcast it downscales it to SD (1080i to 576i) for a SCART output.

There's still quite a number of people who have SD TVs including some VM customers with TiVo boxes.

Hi @fletch26

Thanks for your post 🙂

To have both SD and HD channel options is something that's decided by the broadcaster. As advised by @japitts, HD channels are often only included in certain TV bundles and not all customers may have a HD television, so the SD option is necessary.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,
