V6 remote won't turn off Sony Bravia TV

Tuning in

I have just got a new TV and am trying to program the V6 box remote to control the TV. I can get the remote to correctly program so that the vulime and mute work fine. However when I hold down the power button on the V6 remote a button pops up on the screen to restart the TV instead of switching it off. I have reset the remote and programmed it again successfully but same thing keeps happening. The TV in question is a Sony Bravia KD-43XG8196.

Note that prior to this I had a Toshiba TV that the remote worked with flawlessly. I've even changed the batteries in the remote to no avail.

Thanks for your post on our Community Forums @ivawart, and welcome back to our Community Forums!

Sorry to hear of the issues with the remote control when trying to switch off the TV.

Have you since been able to make any further progress with this function since your post?

Has this been reported to Sony to see if they're aware of this fault, or if this function isn't available on their TV sets?

Kindest regards,

David_Bn

I haven't had any luck with Sony. They just say their Bravia TVs all work with TiVo boxes.

I tried their community forum but majority of people ask about using the TV remote to control the V6 box. Even with that there seems to be a lot of issues like intermittent functionality.

I just want to be able to use the V6 remote to turn TV on and off. It's for my elderly mother who is used to the V6 remote and is finding it difficult leaning how to use a new remote.

Hi @ivawart

Have you tried the following codes from TiVo TV Remote Code List.pdf ?

SONY 0018 0045 0101 0131 0154 0177 0211 0301 0302 0357 0358 0609 0785

Programming your remote using a device code

If you’ve been unable to programme your remote by searching for the correct code, you can also programme the correct code into your remote from the device code list.

  1. Make sure your TV and your TiVo/V6 box are switched on
  2. Find your make of TV and the 4 digit code(s) that match it. Try the codes in the order listed.
  3. Press and hold down  the Clear  and TV buttons at the same time, until the light on the top of the remote flashes green twice.
  4. Enter the four digit code for your TV's make from the list. The LED should then flash green twice. This shows you’ve entered a valid code
  5. Press  the Volume up/down and Mute button to check that the remote is working. If not, repeat the steps above using a different code for your TV from the list.
  6. Once you’ve programmed your remote you’ll notice that the light on the top will flash green instead of red when using it for volume and mute control.

The V6 can also be paired with the remote by accessing the following options and following the on screen instructions;

  1. Select  Home on the remote
  2. Select Help & Settings
  3. Select Settings
  4. Select Devices
  5. Select  Remote Control Pairing

There's another method you can try, (hopefully this laborious method will solve your mother's problem) however it may need a bit of perseverance, possibly around 50 key presses (make sure you have fresh batteries)

Go to  HOME > Help and Settings > Help > Set up Remote.

Follow the instructions there it should give you a series of codes to try.

If/when that fails try  0999 in place of the code and press channel up until the TV turns off, then press OK.

I've gone through all those steps already. Pairing the remote isn't a problem. In fact, multiple codes set up the V6 remote just fine. For some reason the TV pops up option on screen to restart when long pressing the standby button on the V6 remote instead of turning it off.

Thank you for your help anyway 👍🏽

Hey @ivawart, thanks for reaching out to us on the forums.

I'm sorry to hear the issue is still on-going 😞
May I ask if you've had the time to try and reach out to Sony for this to see if there's any advice they can give for this?
Let us know.

Kind regards,
Ilyas.
