V6 box slow, no live TV channels

My V6 box is very very slow to boot up.  When it does eventually start I cannot play programmes I have already recorded. When I get as far as selecting a programme, it eventually just gives me the option of saving or deleting that programme.  Also it is not allowing me to view any live channels - only a blank screen.

I have done all the usual checks, including rebooting everything, but it has made no difference.

There's a menu option, can't remember where it's located that makes the box "call home" to check what channels you're supposed to have.

Has the box not been used for a while, it might have been deactivated

The menu option that @SpacePhoenix is thinking of, is the EPG refresh under Home > Help & Settings > Help > TV Care > I'm missing some channels.

But that would prevent a channel from even being selected, something which the OP here doesn't seem to have.

Amazingly, 8 hours later all was working fine - weird!  Thanks for your suggestions nevertheless.
