Box refused to start up this morning with a green screen saying that there is a serious dvr problem that its trying to fix and this may take upto 3 hours.
This has not worked and same green warning screen appears at each attempted start up.
the message means your hard drive has failed, you can phone up for a new box or wait here for a virgin rep to get to you, but that may take a couple of days

Really sorry to hear that you have had these issues here. As advised above, we would need to replace the box, Can you confirm for me have you managed to get this resolved since your initial post?
we have an engineer coming tomorrow 22/07. Will he bring a new box ? or do I need to request one.
If the engineer diagnoses a faulty box, he will replace it for you during the same visit.
