I had my install yesterday by a very nice man and was told there is a shortage of the V6 boxes at the minute and ended up with 2 older boxes that only support 1080p.how can I request to be sent out the V6 boxes I was expecting ? Tried calling earlier but after an hour on hold I gave up.
If I understand correctly, you will be advised when supply is available and arrangements made to install the correct equipment.

Not sure that is correct as the engineer said to talk to virgin who can get new ones sent out once they have some in stock.Is there a better way to request this other then phone as not sure I can take another hour on hold. The chat bot thing doesn't have an option so is basically useless.
You where right the boxes turned up randomly. In typical virgin fashion though there is a cable missing. I believe they are called fly cables that connect the old coax connection to the new box.
What's the best way to request these from virgin without having to be on hold for the whole day ?
