Upgrade

Hi folks, my 94 year old mother has a Tivo box and is used to it. She is now getting a message that she should upgrade it to the new V6 box. I just wonder what people think. She doesn't do well with new technology. A new remote will be quite difficult for her to cope with. I just wonder how long the Tivo box she has will work? Will it be OK for a few more years or should I try and upgrade it for her?

Thanks, Chris

Re: Upgrade

Are you sure she actually has a TiVo? I've never heard of that message on a Tivo

Re: Upgrade

It won't be on TiVo, it'll be on a V+ HD or V HD box.

Re: Upgrade

Yes sorry. It's a V+ HD box. Anyone know its life expectancy?

Re: Upgrade

It should have been swapped already as Virgin have been writing to customers about it since the end of last year and offering a no cost swap to TiVo or V6.

From tomorrow BBC Red Button will no longer be available on the V boxes and new BBC Catch Up stops being added - and all existing BBC Catch Up will expire by the 8th

I'd then expect other features to be withdrawn until the box stops working completely.

Re: Upgrade

OK thanks. I'll call Virgin next week to try and get her a new box. Hopefully they will speak to me even though I'm not the account holder. I also have Virgin. We once had an engineer around who laughed at our Virgin box as it was so old. Neither I or my mother ever seem to get a letter from Virgin telling us it's time to get a new box.

Re: Upgrade

Would she be better off with a TiVo as a V6 will require a hub as well.

Re: Upgrade

Virgin won't force an upgrade to broadband and will supply a TiVo as the swap if that's the best option.

Re: Upgrade

Thanks but she is 94 and deaf. She will have great difficulty understanding somebody on the phone. Any details she gives will only be what I have told her. It seems a bit ridiculous as I'm only requesting a free box upgrade.

Cheers,

Chris
