TiVo box wants me to “open” ports on my router

I ran the networking tests on my TiVo box and it failed because apparently some ports (80, 8080, 7287, 7288, 8081) are not “open” on the router. My Virgin Hub is in modem mode, and I have another router within the LAN. Unfortunately “not open” is an almost meaningless phrase in this context; it needs to be clarified: => What does Virgin mean by “opening” these ports? Do they mean “opening” for incoming connections (in which case they mean “port forwarding”), or do they mean “opening” for outgoing connections, in which case to what host do they want to connect?

Forget this. It’s not needed.

Re: TiVo box wants me to “open” ports on my router

Ok. Thanks for the info. I certainly did not notice any lack of functionality with those ports "closed"..
