Swapping my existing boxes

I've currently got a V6 box in a spare room which gets little usage (Virgin replaced an old +box for free). My main box is a TIVO which I'd like to replace with a V6 box.

Yesterday Virgin told me if I wanted to swap the TIVO with a new V6 they'd charge me £165! Is it possible to simply swap my current boxes?

Do I need Virgin need to authorise the swap to make it work?

The boxes are on separate runs of cable from the box on the wall outside.

Hello

Yes you can switch the position of the boxes all you need to do is power off both boxes, disconnect the coaxial cable and then move the boxes positions. You do not need authorization from VM as they connect to the same street box.

Re: Swapping my existing boxes

Sorry to ask a more general question on the back of my earlier tech Q and the excellent answers, but would a HDMI cable be able to carry a decent signal say 10 - 15 metres? Would a "fibre optic" HDMI cable manage it?

I'm asking as if I swap my boxes, I'd like to run existing recordings from my (full) TIVO back through to my main room, deleting the content over time, whilst using the V6 box as my new main box.

Re: Swapping my existing boxes

Hello

Don't forget that as long as both boxes are connected to the internet you can view/manage the recordings on each other, so you can have Ethernet from the Tivo to your hub and can use either wireless or ethernet from the V6.

HDMI may have problems at that length see https://www.bluecinetech.co.uk/hdmi-max-length/

Re: Swapping my existing boxes

You can watch recordings made on the TiVo from the V6 by connecting the TiVo to the hub with an Ethernet cable.

Re: Swapping my existing boxes

Sorry to be slow about this......but how do I watch one box from the other room?!?

Both boxes are connected to the internet. The TIVO in my main room is connected to the internet via an ethernet cable. The V6 is in the spare room connected via Wifi.

How do I watch programs recorded on the V6 on the TV attached to TIVO?

I can control the V6 via the Virgin app but how to get the content across?

Re: Swapping my existing boxes

Wow another feature I didn't know existed!

Many thanks to Ernie and to all those others who've given advice. I have to say the suggestions have been a world ahead of the (keeping this polite!) rubbish I got from Virgin who just wanted to flog me a sim card I didn't need.

I'll swap out the boxes so the V6 will be the main box - could be last step to being sorted - and report back.

Many thanks!
