Samsung Smart Remote & V6

I was watching this video on YouTube : https://youtu.be/v5sSuUUdCII , and at around  4:14, the guy is controlling his V6/TiVo via the Smart Remote control which came with his Samsung TV.

I know that in order to get the V6 remote to control the TV, you need to configure the V6 remote with the correct code of the TV, but how do you do this the other way around so that the Smart Remote controls the V6 (couldn’t find a solution on any previous threads)?

Re: Samsung Smart Remote & V6

Not knowing, I would guess the smart remote ‘pretends’ to be the IR component of the V6 remote and can’t ‘pretend’ to be the paired RF part of the V6 remote.

Isn’t that how universal remotes, such as Logitech Harmony, work?

Re: Samsung Smart Remote & V6

Ok, so set up my new Samsung 4K TV today and are amazed that that the Samsung Smart Remote, controls the V6, right out of the box with absolutely no configuration from myself!

With the Smart Remote, I am able to bring up the V6 full guide, display the mini guide, change channels and view my recordings in My Shows - it’s superb!

One thing thing though, I can’t seem to get the Smart Remote to either turn the V6 on or off - I still have to use the V6 remote to do that.

Anyone know if this is possible?

Re: Samsung Smart Remote & V6 - UPDATE!

....just to update my initial post.

Tonight I’ve discovered that if I leave the V6 turned off and turn on my TV first ( I have the Samsung 50”MU6120 with a Smart Remote), and then select the HDMI source for ‘Virgin Media (configured when the TV was initially set up), the TV will then turn the V6 box on by itself without me even having to touch the V6 remote control. How cool is that 😎

Re: Samsung Smart Remote & V6 - UPDATE!

Yup I have the new Samsung QE65Q8CAM and the samsung remote can do everything. Not sure if your's is the same? the remote is silver and most everything is done by the silver circle thingy (see how techy I am lol). Worked right out of the box, because everything connects into the Samsung box thing that come with their TVs. Samsung make things so easy 🙂

Re: Samsung Smart Remote & V6 - UPDATE!

Can somebody answer this question for me (just trying to establish how this actually works)....

So I have a Samsung Smart Remote:

This is paired via Bluetooth to my 50"MU6120 4K/UHD TV.

When I turn the TV, on, and select the VIrgin Media source, the TV automatically switches my V6. on....

Is the TV doing this via the connected HDMI lead or is it doing it via something else?

Also, how does the Samsung Smart remote control the V6 - I can browse the guide, go to 'My Shows', rewind fast forward and pause the tv, and do pretty much everything I need, right from the smart remote!  Is this connected via bluetooth to the V6?

Re: Samsung Smart Remote & V6 - UPDATE!

I just always thought it's because everything connects via the Smart box.

...I'm not using a Smart box though. My V6 connects directly to the TV.

I mean the box that comes with all new Samsung TVs... thought they called it a smart box, maybe not. I'm not sure why you wouldn't use it.

...not being funny but my TV did not come with a box of any kind (not all of them come with boxes).

Like I said, the V6 is connecting directly to the TV.
