Recording on TiVo like using VHS recorder

I watch and record a lot of live sport, and as such things do run over.

Why is the TiVo box still unable to account for these delays and changes to programme times? It's like it's an old VHS recorder where you just set the time you want it to record.

How can it not recognise changes in the programme schedules to account for the changes in start and finish times? If the information is there on the programme guide, how is it not transferred to the recordings too?

Re: Recording on TiVo like using VHS recorder

the programme guides are not live. They are updated each night. that is why the tivo needs to be on at nights

Re: Recording on TiVo like using VHS recorder

When I select a live sports event - my TiVo asks me if I want to add extra time as it is a live sport event.

For Series Links I just add 30 minutes to the end time.

Re: Recording on TiVo like using VHS recorder

Thanks, I've been doing this too, but not for 30 mins. This method just seems so archaic as a solution. I really don't like the TiVo box, everything feels so clunky. If only Sky could provide fibre in my area.

Re: Recording on TiVo like using VHS recorder

If you really want Sky's TV you can have it and dump VM's TV.

Re: Recording on TiVo like using VHS recorder

There's been numerous threads in the past explaining why Virgin's EPG updates every 6 or so hours rather than "live", and that's intricately tied with some of TiVo's scheduling logic that Sky can't replicate.

You can manually add padding to recordings of live events, and automatically add padding to anything else.

However, as someone else has already pointed out - you need to choose the TV platform that best suits your needs.
